A 67-year-old woman has died following a two-vehicle crash on a north-east road.
The incident, which involved a red Fiat 500 and black Skoda Fabia, occurred at around 9.50pm yesterday on the A952 Mintlaw to Fraserburgh Road, north of Mintlaw.
Police have confirmed one woman died in the crash, with four others taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
The 65-year-old male driver of the black Skoda Fabia has minor injuries.
There were two females in that same car, including the 67-year-old who died. The other female, aged 17, has sustained serious injuries and is stable.
The female driver of the red Fiat 500 has sustained serious injuries and is stable.
A police spokesman said: “We attended the two-vehicle collision on North Street, Mintlaw, after receiving the call at 9.46pm.
“One person was confirmed as a fatality and four others were conveyed to hospital where they were treated for injuries.
“The fire and ambulance services were also in attendance.”
A fire service spokeswoman said: “We sent three appliances after receiving the call and 9.43pm.
“There were four casualties and we made the vehicles safe.
“We used hydraulic cutting gear, small gear and lighting.”
Road Policing Sergeant Rob Warnock said, “My thoughts, and that of my officers, are very much with the family and friends of the 67-year-old woman who sadly died in this tragic collision.
“I would appeal to anyone who may have seen the crash or who may have seen either vehicle shortly beforehand and who hasn’t yet spoken with police to do so as a matter of urgency to help us piece together exactly what happened.”
The spokesman confirmed the road opened early today, at around 4.50am.
Following the crash, motorists were urged to stay away from the area, with officers saying the road was likely to be closed for some time.
