People in Aberdeen and the north-east are being urged to be aware of counterfeit notes following recent reports of attempts to tender fake notes in the city.
The notes involved are Royal Bank of Scotland £20 notes.
PC Steven Mason said: “We are advising members of the public and in particular retail workers who handle cash sales to thoroughly check bank notes before handing over change to ensure they are not fraudulent.
“Anyone who deliberately uses counterfeit currency is committing a crime and we will thoroughly investigate all instances reported to us.
“If you suspect you may have received one of these notes or have any concerns please contact police on 101 quoting incident number 3445 of September 12.”
