A teenage driver has been banned from the road after colliding with a lamppost – then getting behind the wheel while drunk a few weeks later.
Vadims Hmirovs was spotted driving on York Street at about 6.40am on July 7 this year going at excessive speeds.
The driver then lost control and crashed into a lamppost and a concerned witness called the police.
When officers caught up with the vehicle, they noticed a woman was sitting in the driver seat but soon discovered that Hmirovs had been driving when the crash happened.
He had not been insured to drive at the time.
He landed himself in trouble again when he was seen driving on Kerloch Place in an erratic manner at 4.45am on July 27.
The 19-year-old was later traced at his home and identified himself as the driver.
When breathalysed, he was found to have 82 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 milliletres of breath. The legal limit is 22.
Hmirovs admitted the offences during an appearance at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.
Representing him, defence agent John Ferrie said: “He has no previous convictions, these two matters are in close proximity to each other.
“He is in full-time employment – a loss of a licence will not be a problem for his work.”
Imposing a sentence, Sheriff Philip Mann said: “Why you chose to drive in this manner I do not know – possibly you were showing off.”
He banned Hmirovs, of Middlefield Place, from the roads for 14 months and fined him £900.
