A north-east MSP has called for clarity on the future of fish workers and farmers post-Brexit.
Maureen Watt, MSP for Aberdeen South and North Kincardine, has asked the Scottish Government for assurances that sheep farmers in Scotland will be protected from the “damaging impact” of Brexit.
She has also asked the rural economy minister for information about EU nationals working in the fishing industry.
A report published earlier this year found that 58 percent of Scottish fish processor employees are from the non-UK EEA, particularly from countries including Poland, Latvia and Lithuania.
She said: “As a result of the chaotic mess brought about by Brexit, it is little wonder that the fish processing sector in my constituency and the surrounding north-east is worried about the impact it may have on their workforce.”
