North-east councillors have been asked to approve a £750 funding bid for a new defibrillator in Peterhead.
The town’s community council has applied for the cash to help them pay for a life-saving device outside Buchan House.
Members of the group have already raised half of the £1,500 needed for the machine.
It would be the second publicly accessible defibrillator in the town centre alongside another device at the community centre.
A report by Aberdeenshire Council’s business services director Ritchie Johnson confirmed Buchan House was the “preferred location”.
He said a member of the community council would also be in charge of maintaining the defibrillator, which is used if someone suffers a cardiac arrest.
Mr Johnson added: “The preferred location is the wall of Buchan House, a well-known landmark in the town.
“Permission has been granted by the area office and the associated costs will be met by Aberdeenshire Council.
“This would be the initial connection to electricity supply and yearly running costs of approximately £15.
“Peterhead Community Council has a member, who is a qualified first aid instructor and cardiac responder, who will take responsibility for maintaining the device along with the one she already maintains at the Community Centre.”
The defibrillator would be supplied by the Lucky2BHere charity and includes an outside cabinet.
Councillors on the Buchan area committee will discuss the funding application when they meet next Tuesday.
