A north-east man has been banned from the roads after being caught more than six times over the drink-driving limit.
Police saw a vehicle being driven by Raymond Smith on North Balnagask Road at around 11pm on September 28 and stopped it, because the car had no lights on and appeared to have a problem with a tyre.
The found him slumped in the front seat smelling of alcohol.
The 22-year-old was breathalysed and found to have 143 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 milliletres of breath. The legal limit is 22.
Smith confessed to being over the limit during the incident while appearing at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.
Representing him, defence agent John Hardie said his client did not have an alcohol problem, but had recently received some bad news at the time of the incident.
He added that it was a “short distance” from the pub where he had been drinking.
Imposing a sentence, Sheriff Philip Mann said: “This is a very high reading – blatantly the safety of the public was put at significant risk.”
He banned Smith, whose address was given as North Balnagask Road, from driving for 20 months and fined him £800.
