Inverurie will be transformed into a sparkling festive destination this year with the announcement that an ice rink will be installed in the town centre.
The two weeks of Discover Christmas – Inverurie celebrations will be launched by a parade culminating in the festive lights switch-on and fireworks display on Sunday, November 25.
The annual Santa run will also be part of the festive line-up as well as a Big Sing performance from local school pupils.
Unveiling the festival, We Are Inverurie bid manager, Derek Ritchie said: “We are absolutely thrilled to announce that the Inverurie Ice Rink will be in town from December 1 for this year’s festive celebrations.
“It is sure to add even more sparkle to the festivities and we are really looking forward to seeing everyone skating and enjoying themselves.
“There is lots going on, including a parade, fireworks, live bands, Christmas stalls, the Santa run, Santa’s grotto and a big sing performed by 350 pupils from local schools.
“There will be festive food and drink, music and plenty of Christmas cheer.”
Mr Ritchie added: “The ice rink, sponsored by Barrett Homes, welcomes skaters of all ages and abilities and is perfect for a family treat, a first date, or a great fun night out with friends.
“For those wishing to watch friends and family enjoying themselves, there will be a spectators’ area, adjacent to the rink with refreshments available.“
This year’s Christmas market will be on Station Road, with a variety of stalls offering crafts, produce and much more.
Supported by We Are Inverurie, the 45-skater capacity ice rink will be open every day from December 1-9.
Tickets will be available at the rink and cost £5 for all ages. The price includes hire of skating boots or penguin skate aid for small children.
