A man has admitted grabbing a teenager and trying to rob her in Aberdeen.
Shaun Reynolds struck on Great Northern Road on May 28, targeting the 17-year-old as she walked home from a relative’s house.
The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, became aware of Reynolds and two women walking on the opposite site of the road from her.
She later heard footsteps coming up behind her, before Reynolds shouted “give me the money”.
The 28-year-old, of Great Northern Road, then threated to attack her when she said she did not have cash. He grabbed her, pushed her and tried to grab her handbag before fleeing empty-handed.
Reynolds admitted the assault and robbery charge when he appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.
Fiscal depute Sally Mcauley told the court: “The handbag was sent for forensic analysis and DNA from the accused was found.”
Defence agent Les Green said: “He is totally ashamed that he committed this offence.
“It was a horrific crime to commit against a young woman at that time in the morning.”
He asked for his client to be admitted to the problem solving court, where offenders are given the chance to work through any issues that may be causing their behaviour.
Mr Green added: “He appears to be at a very important crossroads in his life. He could go on to be a useful member of society with no further offending if he gets the right support.”
Sheriff Ian Walker said: “I am persuaded that we can at least look at the problem solving approach.
“You will appreciate how serious this offence is and that it could bring about custody and you have a very bad record.”
Reynolds will be return to court later this month to learn his fate.
