A north-east teenager has been placed in detention and banned from the roads after twice stealing cars from properties in Aberdeen and driving them dangerously.
The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, first targeted a home on the city’s Morningfield Road on April 23 this year.
He made off with a car and drove it to the A944 Aberdeen to Alford Road at Kingswells, hitting speeds of up to 90mph in a 30mph zone before losing control and colliding with a road barrier.
The teenager struck again in Queens Den on June 7 where he stole three sets of car keys, a safe, a quantity of jewellery and £6,000.
After taking the items, he drove the car along Queens Road and again drove at excessive speeds, failed to comply with a traffic crossing signal requiring him to stop and narrowly avoided a collision with a pedestrian.
On both occasions he drove without a licence or insurance.
He confessed to the offences during an appearance in Aberdeen Sheriff Court where he returned yesterday to be sentenced.
Sheriff Jack Brown placed him in detention for 33 months and banned him from the roads for four years.
