A man caught with a knife in Aberdeen told police officers he thought it was a letter opener.
Police stopped a vehicle being driven by Hardik Shukla on Rosemount Viaduct at around 9.25pm for a check.
Upon doing so they found a sgian-dubh in a carrier bag.
When cautioned by officers Shukla said he thought it was a letter opener.
He confessed to being in possession of a knife in a public place without lawful authority on July 10 this year during an appearance in Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.
Sheriff Ian Wallace deferred sentence on Shukla, of Fingask Place in Oldmeldrum, in order to obtain reports.
The 34-year-old will return to court next month.
