A north-east charity has smashed its fundraising target to expand its lifesaving work.
The Sandpiper Trust, which provides defibrillators to remote communities, is looking to recruit more volunteer medics.
Its current group is on hand to provide treatment when ambulances are out of range.
Now, the charity is hoping to sign up another 16 volunteers and recently held an auction and dinner which managed to raise £65,000.
This was £20,000 more than the organisers had originally pursued.
The Every Second Counts event was hosted by comedian Fred MacAulay and Scotland rugby legend Gavin Hastings.
The volunteers will be trained GPs, nurses or paramedics who are given lifesaving equipment and vehicle locators.
A motion, congratulating the organisers and donors, has now been lodged at the Scottish Parliament by Aberdeenshire West MSP Alexander Burnett.
He said: “The money it takes to train these medics is a small price to pay for the lives they might save in remote locations, where it could take too long for ambulances to arrive.”
