Hundreds of people braved adverse weather to enjoy a spectacular pyrotechnics display which illuminated the night sky with firework formations in the shape of smiley faces.
Despite heavy rain, more than a thousand people turned up to the Guy Fawkes celebration in Ellon on Saturday night.
Among the usual bursts of colour which exploded into life above Gordon Park there were some unique fireworks designed to look like a smiley emoji, which proved especially popular.
The Ellon and District Round Table organised the event and members yesterday hailed its success.
Group chairman, James Shaw, said: “I think it was pretty good, the weather put a few people off as there were some windy showers, but there was a good number.
“We got the fireworks from NJE fireworks in Ellon, which is a good local company.
“It was the first time we have used them, they had some pretty massive fireworks which were spectacular and covered the whole sky.”
Revellers enjoyed fun fair rides, and stalls were set up offering mulled wine and cider.
The event was boosted by the help of volunteers from the Ellon Meadows football team.
The Round Table members are not yet done for the year as they have more activities lined up for the festive period.
They will be selling Christmas trees, which will be on sale at a number of events including at the Ellon Christmas Lights switch-on taking place on Saturday, November 17.
The trees are also available to buy online through the group’s Facebook page.
They will also be going around the town door to door with a Santa sleigh from early December.
