A ghoulishly generous couple are inviting people to roll up, roll up to their spooky funfair-themed house tonight.
Every year Scott and Claire Graham open their doors to dozens of local children to come and experience their home, which is transformed into a terrifying Halloween extravaganza.
They spend months preparing for the event, from picking the theme to scouring charity shops for props and setting up the house.
The event has become hugely popular and the couple take collections for a charity of their choice – previous years they have donated to MS Research and Somebody Cares.
This year the house will be themed after a haunted funfair, and is named The Unfair Funfair of Sam R. Hill, a pun on Summerhill – the area of the city they live.
A hall of curiosities, a circus tent and terrifying clowns are just some of the features to send shivers down the spines of the youngsters.
And this year the couple will hand over all their donations to Future Choices, a charity which helps disabled people in the north-east.
Mr Graham, who works in digital media, said: “We were trying to come up with a theme this year and were watching the Hugh Jackman film, The Greatest Showman.
“We had heard about the work of Future Choices through a friend and thought it was a really great cause.
“They’re a local charity who do great work and it’s all volunteer-run and if people want to give they can and the funds will go directly to them.
“The great thing about what we do is that we can sell our props on to someone else each year, meaning it never really costs us much and we can give as much as possible to charity.”
David Forbes, chairman of Future Choices, said: “We are more than pleased the Grahams have picked us as their charity this year.
“Given the history of the organisers picking charities such as Somebody Cares it’s a huge privilege and honour for them to choose us because we are local and volunteer-run – it’s very humbling.”
Guisers are welcome to 12 Fernielea Crescent between 6.30-9pm.
