A former oil office in Aberdeen’s west end will be converted into a gym after the council’s planning committee yesterday backed the plan.
Fit and Skin Studio Ltd applied to transform the first floor of the property at One Queens Lane South into a health studio.
The plan prompted seven letters of objection, with issues cited including that the proposal would “change the character” of the area and cause traffic problems.
However, the small scale venture will only accommodate six customers at a time and officers recommended councillors approve the plan conditionally.
It was approved by the committee unanimously yesterday.
Committee convener Marie Boulton said she expected to see different types of firms taking up former west end offices.
She said: “People love our granite buildings and the best way to preserve them is to put them into use.
“I would expect to see different kinds of businesses, like gyms, move into them as oil firms maybe move into the city centre.”
