Appeal for information in connection with stolen vehicle and fire in Aberdeen

Police in Aberdeen are appealing for information after a vehicle was stolen from outside a property overnight.

At around 7am this morning police and the fire service were alerted to an abandoned vehicle at Woodside Sports Complex on Station Road, which had been completely destroyed by a fire.

DC Paul Wigley, who is leading inquiries, said: “Although the vehicle is destroyed and inquiries are ongoing to establish the exact model, our early inquiries would indicate that it is one reported stolen from outside a property in the Marchburn area of the city overnight.

“Anyone who was in either of the areas mentioned and saw anything suspicious is asked to contact police on 101 quoting ref. no. 0523 of Nov 6 as soon as possible.”

He added: “Once again I must stress the importance of ensuring your doors are locked when you go to bed at night so that you don’t give opportunistic thieves a chance.

“All it can take is a few seconds for someone to try your door, gain access and get away with your keys quickly and with ease.

“Not only can this have a devastating impact emotionally and financially, but there is every chance a stolen vehicle could be used to commit further crime and put members of the public at risk.

“Think about setting an alarm or reminder on your phone as a prompt each night to lock your doors to reduce your chances of becoming a victim of crime.”
