The Scottish Government’s Mental Health Minister will meet with a north-east MSP to discuss the problem of lengthy waiting times for children and young people seeking mental health appointments in the north-east.
Earlier this year, children and teenagers were faced with almost six month waits for appointments in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray.
After writing to the mental health minister Claire Haughey, Aberdeenshire East MSP Gillian Martin will now discuss the issues with her at a meeting in the near future.
Ms Martin said: “The Scottish Government has made a clear commitment to investing in child and adolescent mental health services.
“Earlier this year I called for more early intervention investment to help address the increasing need which is apparent in the north-east.
“There’s an increasing pressure on young people including from social media to look and act a certain way and there’s a clear correlation between its use and a surge in mental health needs amongst teens.
“We cannot simply wait for these issues to reach crisis point, and I want to ensure we get all we can to support children and young people in the north-east.”
