A construction boss has been banned from the road after getting behind the wheel more than double the drink-driving limit the morning after a night out.
Police officers’ suspicions were aroused when they saw Patrick Kavanagh driving his grey Audi hatchback along the A944 Aberdeen to Alford road between Tillyfourie and Mossat on Saturday, October 13.
The 36-year-old, of Tullibardine Walk in Alford, appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday after producing a reading showing that he had 47 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath – more than double the 22mcg limit.
Fiscal Felicity Merson said it was 9.26am when officers pulled the accused over.
Defence agent Ross Taggart said Kavanagh has children aged 18 months and two months, and works as a contract manager in the construction industry.
Mr Taggart added: “This was following a Friday night where he had gone out with some friends, and had quite a bit to drink.
“Having left his car, he went back to collect it the next morning and came to the attention of the police on his journey home.”
Sheriff Philip Mann fined Kavanagh £500 and banned him from driving for 12 months.
