An Aberdeen minister has called for a Pakistani Christian woman, who faces the death penalty in her homeland, to be offered asylum in the UK.
Asia Bibi had been on death row in the country for eight years after allegedly insulting the Prophet Mohammed.
Her conviction has since been overturned but this has prompted mass protests from Islamic hardliners in the country who have demanded her death.
Pressure has been growing for the UK to offer her asylum amid fears she will be killed in her own country.
She already has family members living in Glasgow, who also fled for their lives after being persecuted for their Christian faith.
The Church of Scotland has supported the call and last night Cults Parish Church minister Shuna Dicks said: “I think we should definitely do all we can as a country to help, I think this case is one that we can all get behind.
“We are a country that cares about people and I think granting asylum would send a strong message about the kind of country we are.
“Persecuting anyone because of their religion is totally wrong.”
