An Aberdeenshire butcher has described the “scene of carnage” that unfolded when pedestrians were run over outside his shop, and praised the passers-by who rushed to their aid.
An 82-year-old male driver mounted the pavement on Burn Lane in Inverurie, injuring three women, on Friday afternoon.
The driver, who is understood to have taken ill at the wheel of his silver Ford Fiesta, was also taken to hospital but was released later with minor injuries.

The vehicle collided with the pedestrians near to the row of shops next to Davidson’s Butcher, before coming to a stop behind a line of parked cars.
The shop’s owner, John Davidson, last night said he was still “feeling stunned” after witnessing the immediate aftermath and expressed his thanks to all those who helped the “fallen strangers”.
Mr Davidson said: “This was probably the most traumatic experience my staff and business has ever experienced.
“I personally witnessed the enormous strength in people, just people in general, who raced to the mercy of those in need.
“Not only my own staff but customers, general passers-by, staff from neighbouring businesses and fellow motorists dropping everything for the sake and life of others.
“The scene was nothing short of carnage.
“Shock reverberated throughout the community that came together for those vital moments prior to the arrival of the emergency services.”
Mr Davidson added: “I would like to send a message, on behalf of everyone affected here, to all the fallen strangers – our hearts, thoughts and emotions are with you all right now.
“Victims, saviours, heroes and our amazing emergency services – God bless you all.”
Last night, no update was available on the condition of the injured parties, aged 76, 54 and 40, who were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary following the crash.
Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
Sergeant Andrew Meikleham, of the area’s road policing department, said: “Anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the silver Ford Fiesta beforehand, is urged to contact the police on 101, quoting reference number 2280 of November 16, 2018”.
