A man has admitted setting fire to a flat door after a row.
Scott Thomson had rowed with the occupant of the Wales Street property on April 18, and decided the next day to take his revenge.
He was spotted on CCTV carrying a pile of wood, which he stacked up outside the door and set alight.
The occupant of the property woke up to his fire alarm going off, and discovered his door was ablaze.
Neighbours in the block raced to help, and managed to extinguish the flames by the time the fire service arrived.
At Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday, Thomson of Gillespie Place, Aberdeen admitted the charge of wilful fireraising.
Fiscal depute Alison Reid said: “The cost of damage was in the region of £1,000, it is a council property.”
Sheriff Jack Brown deferred sentence on the 23-year-old until next month for background reports.
He said: “Had is not been for the early detection of this fire as a result of the fire alarm going off who knows what may have happened, it could have caused considerable injury perhaps even death.
“This was a fragrant crime and you will appreciate that a custodial sentence is a distinct possibility.”
