A woman broke into the home of a pensioner while he was there and made off with his wallet and cash.
The 78-year-old man was at his home in Aberdeen when he heard a loud noise coming from his kitchen.
When he went to investigate he saw Elizabeth Sweeney outside and that his window had been smashed.
She climbed in through the window and he said he would call the police.
Sweeney ignored this and went into his bedroom and took a wallet containing £500.
Police attended and saw her leaving the area with blood on her hands and she told them this had been caused by her banging on a window.
They searched her but initially found nothing but later saw £10 notes between her legs.
It later emerged she had the wallet which the victim identified as his.
The 30-year-old confessed to the incident which took place on March 21 this year during an appearance in Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.
Sheriff Jack Brown deferred sentence on Sweeney in order to obtain reports.
He said to her: “On any view this is quite despicable.
“The 78-year-old’s victim impact statement indicates that he is not only a man with cognitive difficulties but the impact of your crime on him was quite significant.
“It is difficult to see that anything other than a custodial sentence would be appropriate.”
Sweeney, of Victoria Road in Aberdeen, will return to court next month.
