Hospitality professionals of the future are being encouraged to find out more about the industry at a special information evening next week.

Two major north-east organisations have joined forces to offer A Taste of Hospitality on Tuesday.

The event will let youngsters hear directly from those already working in the £130billion industry and learn about the career pathways from college and university.

It has been organised by Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) North East Scotland and the Aberdeen City and Shire Hotels Association.

DYW North East chairman Steve Petrie said: “When school students think about their future profession, a career in hospitality may not spring to mind.

“Commonly misconceived as an industry best suited for just a summer or weekend job, in reality the multi-billion pound hospitality sector is bursting with a variety of roles that promise valuable and rewarding long-term careers and lots of fun too.

“I hope that parents, young people and teachers will be both amazed and excited by the huge opportunities that exist in the hospitality sector.

“The future is bright and the forecast is for growth, come along and see what’s on offer.”

Chair of the DWY Commission, Sir Ian Wood, said: “Tourism is one of the fastest growing sectors in the north-east of Scotland, and there will be many great career opportunities in hospitality in the region.

“The event will be a great opportunity for parents and youngsters to learn more about these opportunities and I would definitely encourage them to attend.”

A Taste of Hospitality will be held at The Marcliffe Hotel and Spa from 7.30pm on Tuesday.
