A team of nine Castlehill employees and committee members will be joining thousands of other people across Scotland in Social Bite’s Sleep in the Park.
The event, which takes place on December 8 at a variety of locations, including Aberdeen’s Duthie Park, encourages people to brave the elements and sleep out in order to raise funds and awareness to combat homelessness and rough sleeping.
Castlehill is one of Aberdeen’s longest established housing associations with more than 2,000 properties across the north east.
The team includes staff members from across the region, who insist it’s easy to understand why they would be motivated by this cause.
Sleep in the Park participant Nicola Shand said: “We process upwards of 25 applications a day to our housing list.
“All you have to do is imagine yourself in this situation and you just want to help.
“It’s just one night and we’re hoping that by taking part, we will have more understanding about the issues faced by our applicants, and raise some money which will be distributed locally.”
Castlehill chief executive, David Lappin, added: “As well as providing a roof over someone’s head, we recognise the need to provide appropriate support and help to ensure that tenancies are sustained in the long term.
“We are proud to support the Aberdeen Sleep in the Park event.
“For us, it’s just one night, but those who are doing it for real are not so fortunate and deserve our support.”
Social Bite hopes to raise enough money to further fund their programme of change to help end homelessness throughout Scotland.
Castlehill is raising money towards this via their fundraising page.
