Thousands of homes in an Aberdeen suburb were left without water due to construction work on the £1billion Aberdeen bypass.
About 5,500 people had to go without water for hours on Wednesday after the pipe at Potterton Road developed an 18-inch crack.
The situation was quickly sorted and water returned.
It has now emerged the crack was due to AWPR work.
A spokesman for Transport Scotland said: “We are aware that there was an issue with a water main in the Cranfield area, which arose as a result of project-related works.
“The contractor worked closely with Scottish Water to rectify this as quickly as possible and apologises to everyone who was affected.”
A Scottish Water spokeswoman said: “During planned works, a third party contractor, who was not undertaking work for Scottish Water, damaged section of 18″ main whilst excavating ground as part of preparatory works.
“This resulted in the primary burst that happened yesterday, Wednesday, December 6, in the Potterton area of Bridge of Don.”
