The UK premiere of Russian film Sobibor will be shown at the Belmont Filmhouse on Saturday at 5.30pm.
The special screening, which is free to attend, has been organised by the Moscow Caledonia Club, and will include a welcome by the Lord Provost and the Consul General of Russia in Edinburgh Andrey A Pritsepov.
The screening of the film will be followed by a question and answer session with one of the film’s leading actors, German-born Wolfgang Cherny, who will travel to Aberdeen specially to represent the movie.
The film (cert 18) is based on the history of the Sobibor extermination camp uprising during WWII, and the life of Soviet officer Alexander Pechersky.
The Lord Provost of Aberdeen Barney Crockett said: “To have a premiere of the film here in Aberdeen is fantastic.
“It’s a great example of the very ambitious cultural plans that the Moscow Caledonia Club have which will further encourage and develop the cultural and social connections and exchanges between our two cities.
“As a keen historian, I’ve read about Alexander Pechersky and his heroic deeds and I’m fascinated to see his story told through the movie Sobibor.”
The film is in Russian with English subtitles. Admission is free. Advance booking is recommended.
