Crowdfunding bid launch to help north-east towns shine bright

Deveron Community Christmas Association has launched their own online crowd funder to help with festive lighting costs.

The Christmas lights in two north-east communities have been switched on for only a few days.

But already the volunteers behind the displays in Banff and Macduff have turned their attention to next year’s efforts.

The Deveron Community Christmas Association has launched an online crowdfunding campaign to help with costs.

It is hoped the money raised through donations can make the twin towns even brighter in 2019, with the cash going towards repairing faulty lights.

A statement posted on the Just Giving website by the Christmas association said they were hoping to see both Moray Firth towns shining bright over the festive period for years to come.

It said: “The Christmas Lights and trees in Banff and Macduff are organised by a group of local, working people, who volunteer their time to arrange all the paperwork, fundraising and preparation work every year for the lights.

“Many people believe the lights are provided by the council, but this is not the case.

“The group operates as a registered charity and must raise enough funds to test, repair and maintain the lights annually, in addition to completing all the administrative work required for them to go up.

“This year we are an entirely new group of volunteers who have taken time out of our lives to ensure the lights are installed as normal.

“There are a lot of faulty lights we were unable to get repaired but are already working on plans to rectify this next year.

“With your support we can purchase parts, equipment and some new lights, in time for next Christmas and keep our towns looking bright and festive every December for years to come.”
