A 20-year-old Aberdeen man has appeared in court accused of tailing his former partner through the city’s streets on a stolen motorcycle.
Lewis Bowyer has been charged with a string of motoring offences and an assault on a police officer.
Prosecutors allege he stole a motorcycle from St Peter Street overnight on December 1 this year.
Prosecutors allege he then drove the red Honda on Hayton Road and Provost Rust Drive on December 4, following a car his former partner was inside, before stopping in front of it, causing her to suffer fear or alarm.
During that incident, he is said to have been driving while disqualified and without insurance.
He is also accused of stealing a second vehicle – an orange Lexmoto – from Don Street overnight on December 6 this year and four days later failing to stop when ordered to do so by Police Constable Connor Jackson on Portland Road, Milburn Street and Riverside Drive.
He is also accused of attacking Police Constable Jordan Carter during that incident by headbutting him.
Bowyer is again alleged to have driven while disqualified and without insurance.
The 20-year-old faces a further charge of possessing pliers and a screwdriver on Riverside Drive on December 11 through which it might be inferred that he had been or planned to be involved in a theft.
Bowyer, of Seaton Walk, pleaded not guilty to all ten charges he faced.
He was released on bail and will return to court in January.
Following his appearance at court, Sergeant Andy Machray urged people to “remain vigilant” against car thefts.
He said: “Extensive inquiries have been carried out following the report of the theft of these vehicles.
“I would like to thank members the public who have assisted us with our inquiries but I would urge residents to remain vigilant.
“If you see something suspicious in your neighbourhood, please report it to police by calling 101 with as much information as you can, including any descriptions of people or vehicles you do not recognise.
He added: “High visibility patrols will remain in place and I would again urge the public to ensure that their doors and windows are locked at all times including when they are at home.”
