Former Banchory Academy pupil John Waddell has been selected to stand for the Liberal Democrats in the Westminster seat of West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine.
The seat was held by the Lib Dems until 2015 when Sir Robert Smith was defeated by Stuart Donaldson of the SNP.
The seat is currently held by Andrew Bowie of the Conservatives, who defeated Mr Donaldson in last year’s snap General Election.
Mr Waddell said: “I’m excited to be standing for my home constituency and especially one that has such a strong liberal tradition, having been represented by Liberal Democrats Sir Robert Smith in Westminster and Mike Rumbles in Holyrood.
He added: “I will be a strong pro-UK and pro-EU voice – promoting the views of this constituency who rejected independence and rejected Brexit.”
