A thug has been jailed for launching an unprovoked attack on a man on crutches, leaving his victim with a broken nose and jaw and a fractured skull.
Kacper Grzeslak appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on remand from HMP Barlinnie yesterday after admitting attacking Dawid Jasiulaniec at homeless accommodation on West North Street in Aberdeen on October 14 last year.
Fiscal Jamie Dunbar told the court that Mr Jasiulaniec was recovering from a broken leg at the time.
Mr Dunbar said: “He had been out with friends who invited him to stay at the flat to save him having to get home on crutches.
“But after Mr Jasiulaniec’s friend went to the shops, the accused and another unknown man arrived and consumed alcohol.
“The complainer did not know Grzeslak or the other man and after a while those two began asking Mr Jasiulaniec whether the police had sent him there.
“He did not know what they were talking about but then without provocation, he was punched and kicked repeatedly on the head and body.
“The accused grabbed him by the throat with both hands and tightened his grip, restricting his breathing.
“Mr Jasiulaniec began to feel dizzy and tried again to tell them they were mistaken.”
When the wounded complainer stumbled onto the street shortly afterwards, passersby contacted the emergency services.
Grzeslak later admitted repeatedly punching and kicking his victim on the head and body and restricting his breathing by grabbing him by the throat.
The court heard that Grzeslak had since “expressed extreme regret” and extended his apologies to Mr Jasiulaniec.
Sheriff Graham Buchanan jailed the accused for 23 months.
