Bar managers had to call in security guards to break up a row involving an ex-Aberdeen footballer on Saturday.
Former Dons captain Ryan Jack, who swapped the club for Rangers in 2017, had to leave Soul Bar on Union Street after customers began hurling abuse during a night out with his wife and parents.
Patrons started singing songs towards the 26-year-old before they shouting insults and an altercation involving “pushing and shoving” broke out.
Seeing the events unfolding, bar workers called in security staff who helped the footballer and his family leave the venue to continue their night elsewhere.
Paul Clarkson, a director at Soul Bar’s parent company PB Devco said: “People mainly started singing towards Ryan then hurled abuse and there was then an altercation.
“There was a bit of pushing and shoving which started but it was handbags.”
He added: “It’s disappointing this has happened and we certainly won’t tolerate anyone, no matter who it is, being abused in our bar.”
A statement issued on the bar’s Twitter yesterday afternoon said: “At Soul, the safety of our customers is our first priority.
“We have zero tolerance regarding abusive or offensive behaviour from or towards any of our customers.
“On reviewing CCTV, we can confirm staff and licensed door stewards correctly performed their duties as required.
“Our management and licensed door stewards have complete authority to evict any customers they feel is of an undesirable nature to be within our venue, so request that any customers who choose to join us behave in an appropriate manner.”
