A north-east MSP has urged a council to ensure the region reaps the rewards of a £50million town centre fund.
Finance Secretary Derek Mackay revealed the ring-fenced fund would be a part of the local government settlement during his draft budget announcement last month.
The minister has said the cash would help drive forward the revitalisation of town centres across Scotland, many of which have struggled during the tough economic climate and shifting retail habits of recent years.
Aberdeenshire East MSP Gillian Martin hopes towns in her constituency, such as Ellon, Inverurie and Turriff, can take advantage.
She said: “All high streets across Scotland face challenges as online retail changes the way we shop. But this fund has the potential to stimulate real development in our town centres, to help communities thrive.
“I hope my parliamentary colleagues from across the political divide will get behind these budget proposals to ensure our town centres across the north-east can benefit.”
