It’s a long way from Wimbledon or Flushing Meadows, but way back in 2005 a teenage Andy Murray competed and claimed a major scalp in Aberdeen.
In the same year as the youngster rose from outside the world’s top 400 to 65, he competed in the Aberdeen Cup at the AECC.
The tournament saw Scotland take on England and was held for two years in 2005 and 2006 in an attempt to help attract the Davis Cup to Scotland.
An 18-year-old Andy Murray defeated Greg Rusedski in the final in 2005 to earn Scotland a 4½ to 2½ win.
It could be seen as a real changing of the guard moment, and it wasn’t long before Murray was triumphing over Tim Henman as well to take his place at the top of British tennis.
It was the only time Murray lined up against Rusedski.
It was also the first time Murray partnered his brother Jamie in a doubles match as professional players.
