The Depute Provost of Aberdeen has resigned after being arrested and charged in relation to an alleged sexual assault.
Alan Donnelly has this morning stepped down from the post he was appointed to in 2017, but has maintained his innocence.
The alleged sexual assault happened during a function on Holburn Street following a Remembrance event in November.
It was reported to police this month, at which point an investigation was launched.
A statement released by the local Conservative group this morning said: “Councillor Donnelly has today resigned his post as Depute Provost of Aberdeen.’
“He maintains his innocence and will be making no further comment at this time.”
Donnelly will continue in his role as a councillor for the Torry and Ferryhill ward.
