Man reported for alleged careless driving after north-east road smash

A man has been reported to prosecutors for alleged careless driving following a two vehicle crash in a north-east town yesterday.

Emergency crews were called to the junction between Peterhead’s King Street and Windmill Street shortly before 1.30pm yesterday.

A white Land Rover and a black Ford Fiesta were involved in the collision. Paramedics carried two casualties wearing neck braces to waiting ambulances.

They were both taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.

A section of King Street and Windmill Road was closed for two hours while firefighters, ambulance staff and police worked at the scene.

Fire crews used specialist tools to cut the roof of the Land Rover, which landed on its side, to free the casualty. The Fiesta came to a stop facing the pavement with a damaged bumper.

Smashed glass and other debris lay scattered across the road near the former Glenugie Business Centre following the collision.

Barry Dickson, from the nearby Salvation Army hall, saw blue flashing lights and emergency workers when he turned up at the venue to set up for an event.

He said: “We were just coming in to set up for the kids club. We went over to the police and offered them tea or coffee.”

Last night a fire service spokesman said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 1.28pm on Friday, January, 25 to reports of a road traffic collision in Peterhead.

“Operations control mobilised two fire engines to the junction of King Street and Windmill Street, where firefighters used specialist cutting gear to remove two casualties.

“Both casualties were thereafter transferred into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service and transferred to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

“Crews left the scene after ensuing the area had been made safe.”

A police spokeswoman confirmed a man had been reported to the procurator fiscal for alleged careless driving.
