Work will be suspended on an Aberdeen city centre street due to tonight’s match at Pittodrie. Aberdeen FC take on Rangers in a vital clash for both sides. BT has been carrying out work at the Market Street and Guild Street junction resulting in road closures. However the firm has lifted the closure to allow football traffic to arrive throughout the day. The work will be suspended between 3.30-8pm and will resume overnight before it is expected to be completed by tomorrow afternoon. Work began at the start of the week after a communications cable was badly damaged. Engineers from Openreach have been attempting to fix the problem, which has affected Market Street, Virginia Street and Guild Street, since Monday. Workers later discovered the damage was much more significant than they had initially feared. Traffic restrictions were put in place, leading to major traffic problems during the evening rush hour. Drivers cannot turn right on to Market Street from Guild Street, and there is no southbound route on to Guild Street from Union Street.
