A trio of good causes could benefit from as much as £30,000 as part of a north-east harbour’s latest initiative.

Aberdeen Harbour Board has once again opened up its community action fund and, this year, it has its sights set on supporting its 50th local organisation.

Since 2014 the scheme has funded scores of projects – helping more than 200,000 people in the process.

Applications are now open for any groups which support health and wellbeing, skills and talent or environmental impact.

Three will then be selected and each could be given up to £10,000.

Aberdeen Harbour Board chief executive, Michelle Handforth, said: “At one of the most historically important periods in the harbour’s history, we would like to build on the existing funding programme to, by providing projects with larger funds.

“We hope to become involved with the chosen organisations and build an even deeper supportive relationship.”

The initiative has received praise from the Aberdeen Council for Voluntary Organisations (ACVO).

Alison Chandler, its funding and business planning officer, said: “The fund has genuinely reached the grassroots of community action, truly supported the neediest in the region and genuinely understood what backing voluntary action really entails.

“Standing out from the crowd in this way takes courage, and we applaud the Harbour Board for it.”

Applications are open until Sunday March 31 and can be submitted at aberdeen-harbour.co.uk
