A stretch of an Aberdeen street has been sealed off tonight following an alleged “serious assault”.
George Street was cordoned off from the junction with Hutcheon Street to Powis Place after a squad of plain clothes and uniformed officers descended on the spot.
One witness described seeing a man being driven away from the scene in a police car, and said another was treated by paramedics and taken away in an ambulance.
However, a spokesman for the force said he was unable to confirm any details, such as whether an arrest has been made, and would only say that officers were probing what they believed to be a serious assault.
The spokesman declined to confirm whether the alleged assault involved the use of a weapon.
Another resident reported seeing police rummaging around a nearby building in an apparent hunt for clues.
Police were called to the area at 8.20pm and appeared to focus their investigation on properties near to the Aberdeen Wedding Shop, close to the junction with Powis Place.
Several cordons were strung up around that spot, with passersby discouraged from using the pavement and instructed to take an alternative route.
The force has confirmed that the incident was a “contained” one, with no threat to the wider public.
The condition of the man who was allegedly attacked is not known.
