A stretch of a busy Aberdeen street was sealed off last night following an alleged “serious” assault.
George Street was cordoned off from the junction with Hutcheon Street to Powis Place after a squad of plain clothes and uniformed officers descended on the spot.
Last night a witness described seeing a man being driven away from the scene in a police car, and said another was treated by paramedics and taken away in an ambulance.
It is understood that a 41-year-old man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A spokesman for the force declined to confirm whether the alleged assault involved the use of a weapon.
Another resident reported seeing police rummaging around a nearby building in an apparent hunt for clues.
Police were called to the area at 8.20pm and appeared to focus their investigation on properties near to the Aberdeen Wedding Shop, close to the junction with Powis Place.
Several cordons were strung up around that spot, with passersby discouraged from using the pavement and instructed to take an alternative route.
The force has confirmed that the incident was a “contained” one, with no threat to the wider public.
