A simulated terror attack in Aberdeen city centre last year “improved preparedness”- according to a new police report.
The operation, named Safe Steeple, was carried out last June to test the readiness of services to deal with a potential atrocity in the Granite City.
Several different emergency services in the region were involved including civilian first responders.
Last December it emerged police had also given briefings to the owners of the city’s shopping centres on how to respond.
A report to next week’s public protection committee said that lessons were learned from the simulated attack.
The report reads: “In June 2018, the multi-agency exercise Safe Steeple was led by the Local Resilience Group in Aberdeen and focused upon the impact of a terrorist attack on Aberdeen city centre.
“With a significant number of participants from first responders through to the private sector, a number of learning issues were identified with plans in place to act upon them and thus improve preparedness for such an eventuality in the city.”
