Work could soon begin on the long-awaited demolition of a city school.
In 1971, Kincorth Academy was opened to serve the local area, which had largely developed in the late 1940s and 1950s.
The school closed its doors last July, with local residents initially informed that work would begin to clear the site by October.
Yesterday, it was announced that a contract is being sought for the demolition process of the vacated school building, with the work to be carried out between March 25 and September 9.
The public contract notice states the work would include the demolition of existing school buildings, link bridges, asbestos removal and removal of all services including drainage, together with the removal of all paving, retaining walls and stairs.
Since the school closed its doors last July, it has been repeatedly targeted by vandals, while the school’s alarm system has disturbed local residents on multiple occasions.
In addition, two fires have taken place at the school since it shut.
Kincorth Academy, along with Torry Academy, was replaced with the new £47 million Lochside Academy, which opened last August.
