A newly-formed angling group is casting its net far and wide for new members.
The Alford Angling Association was formed in November to take over fishing beats at Waterside and Haughton, which were previously managed by Aberdeenshire Council
The group is made up of a mix of experienced and novice anglers and those who were inspired to pick up their rods again after many years away.
But the association has issued an appeal for more members to join up, and is particularly keen to get the younger generation involved.
With both the salmon and trout seasons in full swing until October, the association’s president says now is the perfect time to get involved.
James Robinson said: “We are a mixture of keen anglers who have been using the river for years, lapsed anglers wanting to come back to it and also parents keen to get their children involved.
“We are now responsible for managing the bank sides, cutting back the vegetation and making it accessible. We also are in charge of the signs and organising the various bookings.
“I think there’s a big interest among parents to get their children involved because they remember doing it when they were young too.
“The big benefit for youngsters getting involved is it helps them understand the river, the fish and they’re surrounded by wildlife getting exercise in the fresh air.”
The Don has become a renowned spot for wild brown trout fishing and permits are available for this as well as for salmon and sea trout.
Anyone interested in joining the club and getting a season ticket should e-mail alfordanglingassociation@gmail.com for an application form.
The cost is £125 for adults, £65 for seniors aged 65 and above, and £20 for under-16s.
Day tickets, meanwhile, can be bought at the Everlongart Studio and Gift Shop and the Post Office on Main Street, as well as Somers Fishing Tackle on Bon Accord Street, Aberdeen.
