Police and coastguard teams have launched a search operation for a missing 79-year-old today with “growing concern” for her safety. Winifred Russell was last seen at 7pm yesterday evening when she was dropped off at her home in Stonehaven. She is described as 5ft 2in, of stocky build and wears glasses with shoulder-length grey/white hair. She was last seen wearing a red jacket, navy trousers, cream shoes and a brown beanie hat. Police have urged members of the public in the Stonehaven area to check outbuildings and back gardens. A Coastguard spokesman said: “We were called to a police-led incident at 1.20am. “We currently have a rescue helicopter from Inverness helping with the search.” Aberdeen, Stonehaven and Montrose rescue teams and Stonehaven inshore lifeboat are also scouring the area.
