MSPs have welcomed news that Aberdeenshire firms have benefited from a scheme to cut business rates giving them a £11.7 million boost last year.
The Scottish Government’s scheme provided the sum across the region in the 2017 to 2018 period – a 34.3% rise from the previous year.
The Small Business Bonus Scheme, started by the SNP in 2008, supports local firms by reducing their rates liability or taking firms out of business rates altogether.
Aberdeenshire East MSP Gillian Martin and Banffshire and Buchan Coast MSP Stewart Stevenson welcomed the cash boost for the north-east.
Ms Martin said: “These figures prove the success of the Small Business Bonus Scheme for firms across Aberdeenshire.
“Businesses in the north-east have benefited from a massive £11.7m in rates support, providing stability for local jobs and communities and giving firms that valuable headroom to grow and thrive.”
