A community trust is expecting a final agreement to buy a former Victorian Aberdeen primary school this month.
Grampian Housing Association and the Torry Development Trust (TDT) plans on redeveloping the former Victoria Road school and are expected to begin a consultation on plans once the site is purchased.
A community clean-up has been organised this Saturday from 10am to 2pm.
Neil Clapperton, chief executive of Grampian Housing Association, said: “Grampian is very excited to be part of this project and to be leading on this investment in the community.
“We plan to save these fine granite buildings and preserve what is an important local landmark, full of memories and of local history. In an area where there is high demand for homes, we will be building affordable housing to meet local needs”.
David Fryer, lead trustee with the Torry Development Trust, said: “The TDT is pleased to be working with the largest housing association in the north-east which brings over 40 years’ worth of development experience and ability to our project.
“Together, we aim to restore the two original school buildings and create a new building to meet local needs in the 21st century and beyond.”
A presentation is due to be given to the next meeting of the Torry Community Council on Thursday, March 21 at 7pm at Tullos Primary School on the project.
