A left-wing student official based in Aberdeen has been elected to Scottish Labour’s powerful executive – and says members want to end “backroom deals” with the Conservatives.
The city’s Labour councillors have been suspended from the party for nearly two years after forming an administration with the Tories against the orders of then leader Kezia Dugdale.
A party disciplinary body is currently considering the situation involving the Aberdeen Labour nine, although they have won backing from many in the party hierarchy.
Now the Morning Star newspaper has reported that Lina Nass has topped the Scottish Executive Committee (SEC) poll in the North East Scotland and Highlands and Islands region.

The 23-year-old told the paper that “one of the reasons I stood” was to ensure the party took a firm line against coalitions with the Conservatives.
She said:“This result shows that members want a party which pushes for real change – and not the kind of backroom deals which have lost us support since the independence referendum.
“We must remain vigilant and keep fighting for a transformation of Scotland’s economy which redistributes not just wealth but power too.”
She thanked “brilliant members” who campaigned for left-wing candidates
The suspended councillors situation has been controversial across Scotland- with most on the left of the party calling for their expulsion.
But they have won support from all local Labour branches in Aberdeen itself.
