Police are hunting a distinctly-dressed man who tried to rob an Aberdeen corner shop using a Stanley knife.
Covering his face with a dark baseball cap and a hood, the man – who was decked out in blue and white checked trousers and red Nike trainers – threatened a woman behind the counter of L&M Stores on Hutcheon Street at around 1.25am yesterday.
The quick-thinking shop worker alerted the police immediately, leaving the would-be robber empty-handed.

But while he made efforts to disguise himself, the shop’s director is hopeful the attempted thief left behind enough clues for the police to catch him.
Leslie Kilminster said: “He had bare hands, so he left handprints on the door. And he came back to try and wipe them off.
“So I think the police will be able to find some DNA.”
He had nothing but praise for his colleague who fended off the attacker, saying she did “everything right” and added: “It was a shock for her, but she’s as well as she can be.”
Following the botched robbery, the man was seen heading in the direction of George Street.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference 0155 of March 6.
