A north-east organisation helping women and their partners who have lost a child has been granted charity status.
Abi Clarke had a miscarriage in 2014 and, disappointed with the lack of places to turn to for support, decided to set up her own group two years ago.
Since then it has helped scores of women through monthly meet-ups, a 24-hour phone service and fundraising events including a glitzy fashion show.
Her Miscarriage Information Support Service (Miss) has now been registered as a charity, and she hopes it will help the organisation to progress even further.
Mrs Clarke said: “We’re really happy. It’s been a goal of mine from the start to become a charity but I wanted to see if it was something that would be needed first.
“Now we’re two years in, I felt it was a good point to apply for charity status.”
Miss hosts free, confidential support groups every month at Curl Aberdeen and Rubislaw Church, featuring speakers from the world of healthcare and activities ranging from mindfulness to yoga.
Mrs Clarke added: “Our member numbers are growing and having this status will go a long way to increase this and get more people, businesses and organisations involved.”
A Miss fundraising race night will be held at The Ashvale on Great Western Road on Monday, March 29.
Tickets, which cost £15 and include dinner, are still available.
