Budding surgeons to be given hands-on human dissection experience with touring show

Budding medical professionals from across the north-east are to get a glimpse inside the human body with the arrival of a touring dissection show.

Operating Theatre Live, which was featured on BBC show Dragon’s Den last year, will be held in Aberdeen in September as its only Scottish date.

The show is aimed at 12 to 19-year-olds interested in a career in medicine or healthcare, who will be taken through a complete dissection of the human body and taught skills including diagnosis and interpreting X-rays.

They will also be able to ask questions, handle the anatomical samples and try dissection themselves.

Programme director Samuel Piri, an anatomist and teacher, has designed the show to match Scottish exam specifications.

He said: “I and my team guarantee you a breath-taking, unforgettable trip through the human body like never before. Each student will leave stretched and challenged.”

The show will once again be held at St Margaret’s School for Girls, which previously held an Operating Theatre Live showing in August.

Head teacher Anna Tomlinson said: “We jumped at the chance of hosting last year’s event, especially as it was the first time it had been held in Scotland.

“Samuel and his team are extremely professional and dedicated physicians, and we were very impressed with the organisation and way in which they conducted the day.

“The feedback from parents and pupils was excellent and we are once again expecting exceptional demand for places. “
