The future of a north-east school mothballed almost a year ago is now uncertain because there are no pupils registered to attend classes.
Longhaven Primary School was temporarily closed during the Easter Holidays last year and has remained shut since then.
The school had failed to attract a new head teacher to cover the long-standing vacancy.
Parents were encouraged by the council to apply for their children to attend classes, despite the closure.
But now, in papers released to the Aberdeenshire Council education and children’s services committee, it has been revealed that no applications were submitted.
The school will now remain mothballed until after the summer holidays, with all children receiving transport to various other schools due to the lack of demand.
The report states: “Officers committed to resume the recruitment process for a head teacher at Longhaven School if there were applications for pupils to join the school either through the primary one admission process or through the submission of placing
requests.”
The primary one admission period came to an end on January 14 and the deadline for submitting placing requests to move children to a school closed on Friday.
The report continues: “No applications were received, and from the NHS data held by the service, all children known to be living in the area have applied to attend other schools.
“As there continue to be no pupils expected on the roll of Longhaven School, a
decision has been taken by the service to mothball the school for a further
academic session from August 2019.”
The report will come before the committee on Thursday when councillors will note the information and agree to review another report in August.
