An Aberdeen teacher gave a pupil with additional support needs unauthorised sex education lessons and took them on nights out where they drank alcohol, it has been alleged.

The educator, who has not been named, is facing a hearing at The General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) this week.

The watchdog says the man’s behaviour towards the child – known only as Pupil A – between 2014 and 2016 means he is no longer fit to teach.

He has been charged with carrying out conversations in person and over text messages where he discussed his sexuality at, at one point, suggested the youngster should get a tattoo on his genitals.

At the hearing at its headquarters in Edinburgh this week, the GTCS has alleged that the teacher was present on two occasions in 2016 while Pupil A drank alcohol.

This was despite him having knowledge that the child had a health condition meaning he was unable to “regulate” his behaviour and that he had a “pre-disposition” of being unable to handle drink.

The watchdog has alleged that the educator took the youngster on nights-out in Aberdeen, during which Pupil A drank alcohol and allowed him to stay the night afterwards.

He is also said to have stayed with the youngster at his own accommodation.

The GTCS has also alleged that the teacher: “Provided sex education lessons to Pupil A in the metal workshop without the agreement of the school and provided condoms.”

Ahead of the hearing, the watchdog released a list of charges stating the teacher told the youngster to keep their relationship secret.

He is quoted as having said: “The thing is most of the time people are discreet; I tell you things as my friend but I don’t tell these things to others.

“You need to remember that most people before treated you as a pupil therefore they didn’t share these things with you because it is wrong.

“All of these things that I shouldn’t have shared with you, I just did because we were friends”.

The hearing is expected to continue until Friday.

Aberdeen City Council said it could not comment on the allegations.
